Skincare Secrets – The Magic of Olive Oil

Getting better skin is not as hard as you think. We just have to be GOOD about it, and make sure we stick to the rituals which we know will help us in the long run. That means no more lazy nights of leaving your makeup on and going to sleep, no more skipping steps in your skincare routine and definitely eating less junk food! Now I say less because let’s be honest here, we still need to enjoy life to the fullest- and that includes eating what we like. There’s no point in surviving on a diet of lettuce and celery, and strange juice concoctions while being sad and hungry! The key though is moderation.

Eat what you like in moderation and be sure to balance it out with something healthy. Feel guilty about gorging on a whole box of chocolates? Just balance it out by adding salads and fresh fruits to your next meal! Yes, it can be as easy as that; you just have to make sure you’re diligent about taking care of yourself.

We often rely on quick fixes to treat our immediate issues, only to have them flare up again in a few weeks. Instead, try this magical oil which a majority of the population, myself included, completely swear by, and watch as your skin clears up and glows brighter! Over the next 2 weeks, we will explore some must-have home remedies that will bring a glow to your face and body no matter your skin tone. Today’s topic- Olive Oil. Let’s begin!

Olive Oil- Nature’s Magic Potion

Although a bottle of Extra Virgin Olive Oil might seem expensive, we actually purchase other beauty products for the same price or more, which do not last as long or even work as well as this magic elixir does. I only need to buy a new bottle every 3-4 months or so, if I am using it every day. Keep that in mind when planning your next beauty purchase.

Olive oil is an excellent skin moisturizer and gives your face an instant glow. It repairs the skin cells and makes it much more healthy and also forms a protective layer which keeps out dust and dirt. To get more technical – “The flavonoids and polyphenols present in it protect the skin from free radicals and prevent damage.” Free radicals are those little particles that get stuck in your skin and cause breakouts, so this works as a great shield!

Olive oil has so many benefits – It’s great for sensitive skin, it’s a powerful ingredient in all those expensive anti-aging skin care products we buy; it’s rich in antioxidants, it prevents skin aging (usually caused by harsh sun, smoking or other damaging activities), reduces the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines, it also nourishes, rejuvenates and overall protects the skin. Furthermore, Olive oil helps skin cells to regenerate! So if you feel your skin is quite badly damaged due to neglect, we suggest you begin using Extra Virgin Olive Oil.

So how do we use Olive Oil to get that super glowing skin? The great news is, there are so many ways, and all of them work wonders!

Face and Body Lotion

For the Face

After washing your face, take 1 or 2 drops of olive oil in the palm of your hand, rub your hands together so your palms feel hydrated and are slightly balmy with oil (your hands should not be sticky with oil as it will feel heavy on your face). Massage the oil all over your face and neck. Wipe away the excess oil. You will feel the effects almost immediately and won’t be able to stop touching your cheeks because they feel so soft!

Nature’s Body Balm

For the Body

First, clean your skin with your usual shower gel and rinse off. Then massage your body with the extra virgin olive oil before hopping into your shower or bathtub. After you finish taking your bath, pat your skin dry and wipe away the excess oil. You will see the same smooth results on your body!

If you want to soak in an olive oil bath, just add 5 tablespoons (or more if you want!) of extra virgin olive oil into your bathtub and your beauty bath is ready!

The Ultimate Cleanser

Makeup Remover

Olive Oil is a fantastic makeup remover because it not only removes both normal as well as waterproof makeup, but it also nourishes and moisturizes your skin while doing so.

If you’re wearing light makeup then you can apply a few drops of olive oil to a cotton pad and gently wipe your skin clean. But if you like wearing heavier makeup with dramatic eyes (like I do) then I would suggest you massage olive oil over your face and eyes with your fingers, and then wipe it away with cotton or a damp wash cloth. Remember to be gentle and repeat the process till all the dirt and makeup is gone. Rinse your face with warm water and then splash some cold water on your face to close the pores. All done! Remember never to go to bed with makeup.

Oh-So Many Health Benefits!

Bonus:

Besides all the above uses of Olive Oil, this miracle liquid also works well as an under eye solution, can strengthen your fingernails, and it makes your hair shine while leaving it feeling super soft! To top it all off, don’t forget to add a few drops of Extra Virgin Olive Oil to your salads, bread, or basically anything you like! It’s not only super good for you, but it makes a boring salad taste like heaven! Trust us when we say that a bottle of Olive Oil is going to change your life. Try it and let us know what you think!
